Canada is a better choice than the U.S. to be the home of a North American Islamic banking hub, says a new report.
The report from business data organization Thomson Reuters and the Toronto Financial Services Alliance argues Canada has a larger Muslim population, proportionally, than the U.S. and is therefore better-positioned to be a hub for Sharia-compliant banking.
“The geographic concentration of the domestic Muslim population and less complex regulatory environment make it a more attractive market than the United States for home finance,” the report stated.
The report sees the potential for a boom in Islamic banking in Canada, noting that Canada’s Muslim population is set to rise to 3 million by 2030, or 6.6 per cent of the population, from 1.3 million today.
It sees a potential $18-billion market in Canada for “Sharia-compliant mortgages” by 2020. And it says the Canadian business community’s links to Muslim countries would help Canada land a share of the Islamic banking business abroad.
"Canada’s asset managers have a wealth of international experience in the responsible finance and Sharia compliant investment space that positions them well to capture a share of the estimated $23 billion responsible Islamic investments market," the report said.
Sharia banking has been growing rapidly in recent years, chart from E&Y shows.
Observers say the Islamic banking sector has been growing rapidly recently, and the new report says it now has US$1.8 trillion in assets under management. (By comparison, Canada’s big five banks have about C$3.3 trillion in assets, combined.)
Sharia banking has become particularly prominent in Britain, where it has found a friend in Prime Minister David Cameron.
The previous Harper government made bringing an Islamic finance hub to Canada a priority. The Conservatives even reportedly helped sponsor the World Islamic Banking Conference, where the Thomson Reuters/TFSA report was presented this week. The governing Liberals have been quiet on the issue.
Islamic banking isn’t entirely new to Canada. A number of financial institutions offer Sharia-compliant financial services — take, for instance, CIBC’s “halal investing” program.
It took a step backwards in Canada in 2011, when UM Financial, at the time the largest promoter of Sharia banking, went bankrupt.
Charging interest is prohibited under Shariah law, so in the 1970s economists in the Muslim world began pushing for an Islamic alternative to Western banking.
Generally, when Shariah-compliant banks lend money, they become “partners” in an investment or “co-owners” of an asset with the borrower, and collect money as an owner rather than charging interest.
Shariah-compliant banks are also forbidden from being involved in the production or sale of alcohol, tobacco and pork, and can’t do business related to gambling, pornography or weapons.
The practice is controversial, even within the Muslim community. When Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. decided in 2008 to study Islamic banking, the head of the Muslim Canadian Congress called the industry “a con job.”

A 2006 book by New York-based banker Muhammad Saleem called Islamic banking “a $300-billion deception” (based on the industry's worth at the time) and argued that so-called Shariah-compliant banks are actually charging interest to customers like all banks, except “disguised in Islamic garb.”

"It's becoming clear that some very wealthy Canadian shareholders tied to Finance Minister Bill Morneau are positioned to benefit handsomely from the proposed federal tax changes for incorporated small businesses and professionals. As Canadians, we should be paying very close attention.
Just yesterday my husband and I learned about pension-type savings options for small business owners called Retirement Compensation Arrangements (RCAs) and Individual Pension Plans (IPPs, geared more towards business owners in their 50s).
These retirement savings plans/products were suggested to us as potential next steps if the proposed federal tax legislation affecting small business goes through. (For context, given our incorporated structure, if the legislation is passed, any income we draw when we retire will have been taxed at a rate of 73%. Clearly, this doesn't seem like a fair deal for a lifetime's worth of work, so we—like every other incorporated small business owner out there—are working hard to understand what our options are.)
Today, from an All Nova Scotia article (Sept 19), we learned that the largest provider of these pension plans in Canada is none other than Morneau Shepell.
That's right, Morneau Shepell—the multinational benefits/pensions consulting firm founded by Federal Finance Minister Bill Morneau's dad, William Frank Morneau, Sr. in 1966, with annual revenue in 2016 totalling $592 million Cdn. It's the largest benefits and pension firm in Canada.
Today, William Frank Morneau is listed as honourary chair and founder of Morneau Shepell on the company's website. And Bill Morneau, according to the All Nova Scotia article, "...controls over 2.2 million Morneau Shepell shares worth over $47 million based on the closing stock price on Monday."
If the federal government brings in their proposed tax changes, led by Justin Trudeau and Finance Minister Bill Morneau, incorporated small businesses across Canada will be forced to close their holdings companies and opt instead for other retirement savings strategies... like the private pension plans offered by Morneau Shepell.
So who really stands to benefit from the legislation that's being positioned as changes to make the tax system fairer?
That's right: Bill Morneau, major shareholder in Canada's largest pension corporation. Bill Morneau, Canada's Federal Finance Minister. Bill Morneau, the guy who keeps saying he's closing "loopholes" and "fancy accounting schemes" that give wealthy Canadians unfair advantages over the middle class (...you know, those greedy farmers and doctors and local business owners and such).
While doctors are making calls to healthcare organizations offering jobs south of the border, and small business owners nearing retirement are looking at having to work for several more years, and family farms and businesses passed on through generations face being penalized for passing them down to their kids (and rewarded for selling them to anyone other than their kids), and young couples who've put everything on the line to start their dream business come to terms with the fact that the rug has been pulled out from under them, Morneau Shepell directors and shareholders must be rubbing their hands together in eager anticipation of the windfall to come their way.
If there's a "fancy accounting scheme" that deserves the government's full attention right now, including a thorough Conflict of Interest investigation, I think it's staring them right in the face."

So....basically, you can look at it like this....by stripping the oil sands of the oil, we are actually CLEANING up a NATURALLY POLLUTED area!!! The pictures I've attached start with a natural area with Bitumen oozing out, open pit mining for oil sands (pretty ugly, but only happens in areas where bitumen is close to the surface), SAGD drilling operations for bitumen at greater depths, & reclaiming of the land after operations. This is the cycle that happens in Canada!"

In only a few years our society seems to have drifted into an-all-out assault on Canadian history, values, and culture... the current climate is anti-Canadian and anti-white European .. those who settled and developed Canada are being villified .. some of the reasons for this are obvious .. the seeds of discord being sown and the push to divide and conquer has all the markings of the communitarian agenda .. promoting a society where no one will be allowed to own property and everything belongs to the nannystate, or Big Mother as Niki Raapana calls it in the 'dicatorship of community' the rights of individuals will be removed in favour of the rights of the community... their goals and their actions are bringing about this direction daily ... please take a look into their 'community land trusts' and 'decolonization movement' .. they are nothing more than long term desires to strip away individuals of their individual property rights and freedoms.... I'm aware of their model because NGOs/Non-Profits/Co-Ops promote them in my town .. a university town...
Some of us remember this society based on free speech, individual rights, property rights, and freedom .. it was a more liberated time .. before the divide and conquer kicked into high gear .. now it is peaking in the "Canada 150" current year...... some of us oppose the removal of the Cornwallis Statue in Halifax .. many are demanding its removal... they view it not as a historical marker but a sign of the white Europeans who 'stole Canada' rather than settled Canada [Cornwallis was a Lieutenant General who died in 1776, he was the founder of the city of Halifax]
universities are promoting 'decolonization' as well as 'indigenizing' campuses and giving "Indigenous" studies on campuses as their way forward to further demonize colonization and whites... the white history erasure and re-writing of historical facts will be ongoing .. its only just beginning in my opinion... divide & conquer..

THIS IS the 'workaround' for their U.N. Agenda 2030 .. very impressive work by the zionist banksters .. you have to hand it to them for their sly ongoing divide and conquer and communitarian funding.. why fight with them.. just pay attention to their deeds... closely.

My wife and I ended up speaking to a number of people to ask “is there anything we can do in Sackville to sponsor a family”, but no one knew where to start. So finally my wife put up an ad in the paper to call for a meeting in the chapel. Over a hundred people showed up. Out of the public meeting, we [created the] Sackville Refugee Coalition.”
“Was there a moment that transform you into who you are now?”
“[My life experiences haven’t been] singularly transformative…but several years ago I remember travelling in Israel, in the West Bank. I was sitting in a home of an Israeli who lived in west Jerusalem. We were looking out of the window and there were some boys kicking a soccer ball around an empty lot.
And there were two young soldiers, probably in their early 20s, standing on the edge of the lot. One time the ball got kicked towards the soldiers, and they kicked it back. The boys kicked it over again - I think it was less accidental, more deliberate - and the soldiers kicked it back. It went over a few more times. And there were grins on everybody’s faces.
Then an army jeep drove up. The captain or lieutenant got out. And there was a sharp exchange of words between him and the soldiers. So they went back into standing in their positions, ignoring the boys and the soccer ball.
I thought wow, for that one moment, these two sides became human. That’s what we want - to be human to each other. We don’t want these systems of army security getting in the way of preventing people from being human to each other. I think, that’s how we break down some of these barriers.
If we have one or two Syrian families in this town, there will be people who are opposed to that. But I’m hopeful at some point some of these people will get to know these Syrian families living in their backyard. Then they will realize these are people [just like them]. When we get to know people, we lose our fear.”

Back in late 2015 during the Federal Election I made a number of comments on Perkin's group's facebook page in opposition of their work .. Perkin made an effort to silence me and others and after unsuccessfully trying to message me to request to meet privately with me he called the police to further harass me as his proxy... later on he had his university's lawyers threaten me into silence and his university administration ban me from the university campus .. this was all because he did not appreciate opposition to his work and did not understand that he was in a position to be challenged... As it happens, the little boy Kurdi's story was a false narrative and Federal MP Fin Donnelly was caught fabricating false information to the public in media interviews around the time of the election .. the tragic death of the little boy at the hands of his father a known human trafficker was a political tool used to make the Conservative party MP of Immigration look bad .. learn more at http://firefin.ca . . . Perkin is a vocal advocate for global citizenship and spoke openly at Sackville's 2015 First Gay Pride Parade about how Canadians are now 'all global citizens' and told the 200 plus attendees of the Pride event they were on 'unceded territory'.. so in my opinion he is a political figure both on and off campus and I would recommend his work, words, and efforts be scrutinized as his belief system may not be typical of most Canadians... personally I'd prefer Canadians took good care of Canadians since we have plenty of them in need at this point and they should be our priority. Peter Mansbridge announces coast to coast storytelling tour
While retirement means slowing down for some, it doesn’t look like former CBC anchor Peter Mansbridge has been sleeping in or taking up gardening: Since stepping down from hosting The National this July—after holding the seat for a whopping 29 years—Canada’s grandpa has been gearing up for a coast to coast storytelling tour.
He says (via press release) it’ll be an evening of behind-the-scenes tales that shaped the news, the country and himself: “These are personal stories I’ve collected over the decades.”

Barbara Lerner Spectre ~ Communitarian
Barbara believes with all her heart that there is a role for jewish people to play... what she means are the meddling people called "communitarians" and their interference with the future of Europe and the infliction of multiculturalist societies no one is asking for... so I wonder how it will all turn out...? Barbara is the wife of a rabbi.. she is prone to thinking she knows best.. she does not and could not speak for all jews.. obviously... there are a myriad worldwide of these networked 'community leaders' and they also call themselves 'social engineers' and 'social justice' activists or 'diversity builders' .. but they are all communitarians.. that's her gig..
