Plantagenets Silver Proof Coin
The latest 1oz Silver Proof coin in the popular Queen's Beasts series has just been released and features the Falcon of the Plantagenets, a ‘beast’ steeped in history…
Historical Significance
You see, the Falcon was first used as Edwards III badge, but came to the Queen through Edward IV who changed the once locked fetterlock in the Falcon’s grasp to an open one in order to represent his struggle to ascend the throne – ‘he forced the lock and won the throne’.
It then became one of the ten heraldic beasts that lined the entrance to Westminster Abbey as the Queen entered for her coronation 65 years ago.
