Meanwhile in Nova Scotia... changes are being made by a small vocal minority... why? I've been tracking this movement called #LandBack and I find their work to be more than a little disturbing.

This project, Ta’n Weji-sqalia’tiek, or the Mi’kmaw Place Names Digital Atlas, began over a decade ago, intent on documenting the approximately 13,000 years of Mi'kmaw presence within Mi'kma'ki. Over 1500 place names on the map have an information pop-up when you click on the dot. In that pop-up is information on the name's origin plus the Mi'kmaw pronunciation spoken by orthographer Bernie Francis. Besides the map, there are also dozen of short videos of Elders offering their insights, a section on Legends, & other features you may find of interest.
Is there no end to their requests for money for their groups? People in Canada are struggling with homelessness, depression, unemployment, drug use and austerity measures due to high inflation .... this "grifting" by a special needs group in Canada is truly offensive and needless. Cultural preservation does not come from government handouts. #Say "No" to the Grifters.

First Nations leaders and the federal government announced a $2.8-billion agreement in January to settle the plaintiffs' legal action. They represent 325 nations seeking to address the harms done to their members by the residential school program. The settlement is expected to be approved after the hearing's conclusion this week.
Under the agreement, there's to be an initial payment of $200,000 to all 325 First Nations. This will allow the creation of a 10-year plan for how they want to revitalize their language & culture."
