McMurtry, who also obtained a PhD from the U of Toronto, was forcibly removed from his Abbotsford BC high-school classroom in 2021 when news of a "mass grave" at the Kamloops Indian Residential School broke. McMurtry told his students, based on his knowledge and scholarship, that the school children died from disease and other non-criminal causes. McMurtry, eventually fired from his teaching job for his views, is seen in this video contending that there is an important distinction between death by sickness & death by murder.
