The Croc of Lies: The Theft of North America
Volume Two of a Three-Volume Series

What if the wildlife histories we accept today were part of the very story concealing North America’s past?

In Volume Two of The Croc of Lies, international bestselling author Joseph Gregory Hallett continues his challenge to the accepted historical narrative, turning his attention to the reported origins of North America’s alligators and crocodiles.

Building upon the foundations of Volume One, Hallett questions centuries of sightings, expedition accounts, photographs, and zoological records. He contends that early reports relied on fabricated encounters and unsupported claims, creating a term he has coined as an era of “Natural History Hoaxology.”

Central to his investigation are accounts involving naturalist William Temple Hornaday and the movement of crocodiles between Florida and the New York Zoological Park. Hallett examines these accounts for what he considers inconsistencies between the published stories and the evidence supporting them.

His research then turns to the United States’ occupation of Haiti from 1915 to 1934. Hallett presents the controversial theory that this period provided an opportunity for animal manipulation, hybridisation, and cross-breeding programmes intended to develop a formidable apex predator. He traces his proposed chain of events to Avery Island, Louisiana, where he argues these animals were subsequently presented as the established “American alligator.”

The volume also explores Hallett’s allegations concerning the role of a United States Commissioner of Fisheries and his contention that Chinese alligators and Philippine crocodiles were later introduced to support a misleading account of native species.

As the second instalment of a three-volume series, this book expands Hallett’s position that the concealment of North America’s colonial past, extended beyond historical records into the stories told about its wildlife.

Whether readers find his conclusions persuasive or controversial, The Croc of Lies, Volume Two invites them to examine the author’s case, question inherited assumptions, and continue towards the series’ concluding volume.

If the landscape could conceal a history, could the wildlife conceal how it was hidden?"
