"Oct 22, 2026 The Ben Mulroney Show

Was it a protest, or an insurrection? Melanie Phillips, columnist for The Times of London, joins the show to break down the weekend that saw more than half a million people take to the streets of France, a historic town hall go up in flames, and a debate erupt over what it all means for the West, including Canada. In this conversation, Melanie explains why she believes the violence went far beyond student protests over living costs and failing schools, and why she sees it as a warning for every Western democracy. Ayaan Hirsi Ali, the Somali-born author, former Dutch politician and prominent critic of Islamism, discusses the riots in France, the influence of the Muslim Brotherhood, and what she believes is the failure of Western governments to maintain law and order. Drawing on her extraordinary journey from Somalia to Europe, Hirsi Ali also discusses the differences between Western societies and the countries from which many asylum seekers originate, her own experience of claiming asylum in the Netherlands, and why she believes Europe's immigration system is fundamentally broken. We also discuss the influence of Islam on British institutions, the future of Christianity in the West, and the growing debate over English identity and demographic change.
