Senator Denise Batters...
The Trudeau Government's Bill C-7 expands the criteria for accessing assisted suicide. This bill will mean that death no longer even has to be "reasonably foreseeable" in order to obtain an assisted death. Almost every single one of the 81 witnesses testifying about the bill at our Senate Legal Committee study - from all sides - found huge problems with Bill C-7.
Watch my Senate Chamber speech VIDEO about why I will vote NO at 2nd Reading.
I discuss two of my major concerns with Bill C-7:
1) it is unconstitutional because it discriminates against Canadians with disabilities and devalues their lives; and
2) the danger that could come from extending assisted suicide to Canadians with mental illness as a sole underlying condition.
