Ron Kelly Spurles...
Transforming a tourism welcome centre into a native's museum for Tantramar... ? Why?
Formerly the "Visitor Information Centre" now a place to be 'educated' about folks who did not found Sackville New Brunswick in the 1760s.
You'll recall mumbling Ron's efforts in getting the Town a designation as "Wetland City" United Nations RAMSAR label.. no one asked for this.. no one voted on this.. and no consulting was done of the public and any possible down sides of this designation.. but Ron flew to Geneva Switzerland and enjoyed that free ride & schmoozing all the same.. its good to be Ron.. until its not.. Niagara rejected the RAMSAR designation.. after their lawyers did their due diligence.. town councillors were directed by Ron... why? Ron gets a lot wrong, that's why:
"The Niagara Parks Commission did their due diligence on a proposal to affix a Ramsar designation to the Niagara River and in the end withdrew as a potential nominator of the designation.
A Ramsar designation is acquired when advocates are successful at having property owners, agencies, and local and provincial governments agree to designate a wetland, lake, river, bog or some other water-based ecosystem as a Ramsar site. The proposed sites only need to meet one of nine defining criteria. The name and regime behind the designation stem from the Ramsar Convention signed by number of countries in Ramsar, Iran in 1971." -- The Niagara Independent
Andrew Black called the U.N. RAMSAR designation a "jewel in our crown".. imagine that?
Remember Ron's Town Hall presentation?
