August 2000 Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island "pie in the face" affair... more at this link:

"CHARLOTTETOWN, Prince Edward Island, Aug. 16 -- A young man, apparently a student protester, slapped a cream pie in Prime Minister Jean Chretien's face Wednesday during a visit to Prince Edward Island. The incident occurred at the Charlottetown Civic Center, where Chretien was attending a local exhibition.

The attacker walked up to him as the police were opening a way for him through the crowd, slapped a cream pie on a paper plate in his face, and ran off in an attempt to get away.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police caught up with him moments later and led him away.

Chretien was visibly shaken and angry, but unhurt. Aides quickly led him to a nearby washroom where he cleaned the pie off his face. He did not comment on the incident when he emerged from the washroom, nor at a news conference later.

The attacker told reporters, as police led him away, that his name was Evan Brown, and that he was 23 years old.

He said he belonged to the "PEI Pie Brigade," and had made the attack as a "protest from students, a protest for people on welfare," and a protest against federal government's support for genetically modified food."
