Doctor and blood specialist, Nancy Olivieri, looks after children with fatal blood diseases. She uses her time on stage to discuss the controversy that ensued with The Hospital for Sick Children and a pharmaceutical company for which she promoted a drug then retracted her promotion over fear of the drugs side effects. She goes into detail about her struggle and her concerns with the inappropriate influences of corporate interests on university research. She hopes for academic freedom because, as she says, corporate driven science isn't truth, it's directed, it's politically and economically driven, and the most important thing is it's secretive and that's not what science is about.
