Duke of Marlborough being charged with 3 counts of intentional strangulation

"Aristocrat the Duke of Marlborough has arrived at court to face claims he strangled his estranged wife.

Charles James Spencer-Churchill, a relative of Sir Winston Churchill and Diana, Princess of Wales, has indicated he will plead not guilty to three counts of intentional non-fatal strangulation offences against Edla Marlborough between November 2022 and May 2024.

The 70-year-old is appearing at High Wycombe Magistrates' Court.

He was pictured arriving at court this morning wearing a large black coat.

The three incidents are alleged to have taken place at an address in Woodstock, Oxfordshire.

Spencer-Churchill, known to his family as Jamie, is the 12th Duke of Marlborough and a member of one of Britain's most aristocratic families.

He became the 12th Duke of Marlborough after inheriting the title from his father John Spencer-Churchill who died in 2014 at the age of 88.

He married Edla Griffiths, an artist, in 2002 at the register office in Woodstock. "

"He does not own Blenheim Palace, a gift from Queen Anne to John Churchill, the first Duke of Marlborough, in 1704.

It became a Unesco World Heritage Site under the stewardship of his father and is owned by a foundation.

The 200,000sq ft estate has 187 rooms, dwarfing Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle."
