The stately Queen’s Gates, which have served as the main ceremonial entrance to Parliament Hill since 1876, were removed in March 2024 and sent to Montréal for a complete restoration as part of the rehabilitation of Centre Block. Named after Queen Victoria, the gates were forged from a mix of cast iron and wrought iron in 1872 by H.R. Ives & Co. of Montréal. The fixtures have long stood as a symbol of beauty and craftsmanship and are considered among the finest ironwork ever produced in Canada.
