Sackville's Public Library - Built in 1984 - Discussions at Town Hall This Week

Sackville's Library is too small claims advocate Merrill Fullerton [a former Town Councillor with the Town of Sackville in the past] and well... he's looking for a new bigger space.

Is it too small though? Listen at this link:

Regular Meeting of Council - February 10, 2026

Councillor Mike Tower had some questions ...

he likes the idea of "fundraising" with the public behind it.. makes it a good project.

Mike Tower also asked about the computers in the library and how often they are used... his colleague Ms. Knockwood advised on the use of computers and printers is free.... and the programmes in the library for parents and children for storytime.. empowering the parents to bring literacy into their day.. because apparently parents don't know about helping their children to be literate without the library's help? Imagine that.

Councillor Allison Butcher asked about the fundraising for the new library idea.. and how they did it back in 1984... grassroots.

Councillor Bruce Phinney asked about the existence of other "rented space libraries" in New Brunswick.. and he asked about the basement of the library that is not used [inaccessible] now.

Councillor Josh Goguen also commented that he thought a new library incorporated into a shared multi-use space would be a good idea.. but didn't think he would be a priority.

Mayor Andrew Black commented that he is an "avid reader" and he likes to hear that people are getting out more books.... he added the library space is also very much about 'community' .. and he asked if a larger [doubled] 8,200 sq. ft. recommended new library space would be a way to enable the display of many more books at the library.
