We are pleased to announce that Kathy Andrews has been named the 2026 recipient of the Crown of Winterfest. Kathy was nominated by Edna MacKinnon, who first met her in 1986 while working at Sackville Memorial Hospital. Edna was a nurse, and Kathy worked as a lab technologist, a role she held for 26 years.
Over the past three decades, Kathy has dedicated countless hours to community service. She served as Deputy Governor on the Sackville Kinettes, overseeing five different clubs and leading many fundraising activities. She also worked on the Canada Day Committee for Sackville and continues to support many local organizations, including the Rural Health Action Group, Sackville Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Nursing Homes Without Walls, the Port Elgin Buddy Program, and seniors in the Tantramar community.
Within the SMH Auxiliary, Kathy has served as Public Relations Chair, Fundraising Chair, and as the window dresser for the Gift Shop. She has also served as a member of the Tantramar Hospice Palliative Care Committee and currently co-leads the 50+ Aerobics classes.
Kathy received the award from Oliver Vanbuskirk, MASU VP External Affairs.
Congratulations, Kathy, on a well-deserved Crown of Winterfest Award! "
