David Coon

19h
Today I announced that I will be stepping down as Leader of the Green Party of New Brunswick in the coming months once a contest is held to elect a new leader. And I will continue to serve the people of Fredericton Lincoln in the Legislature.
It has been an honour to serve the people of New Brunswick, and my party in my capacity as a political leader in our province. It’s time for a new leader before the next election. I want to make sure they have close to two years to prepare the Party for its next electoral breakthrough.
I couldn’t have achieved anything without the support of so many dedicated members, donors, volunteers, staff and those who stepped up to serve on our Provincial Council. And of course my Deputy Leader Megan Mitton and Kevin Arseneau, who was my Acadian lieutenant for six years. I am forever indebted to you and your families in so many ways. Thank you!

David Coon’s leadership of the Green Party has changed New Brunswick politics forever.
One of the reasons that I first stood for election under David’s leadership is because he has deep integrity. I’ve seen him work tirelessly, with heart and with hope, to make New Brunswick a better place. He has gone above and beyond to help individuals with their problems, while dedicating himself to fighting for systemic changes that get at the roots of the problems.
I’ve been a member of his team as an MLA for almost 8 years, and I’ve learned countless things from him. I’ve seen how he respects everyone on his team, and everyone he meets. I’ve also seen how much people across the province respect him. Just yesterday at the protest organized by the farmer’s to save our provincial vets and lab services, person after person came up to David to thank him. It’s something I’ve seen across New Brunswick. David has been a strong, consistent voice for so many, standing up for what’s right as the leader of the Greens.
He’s changed politics in our province. He made history by being the first Green elected, he built the party and now the Greens have staying power, with multiple MLA reelections under our belt over the course of that past dozen years. And many more to come.
Thank you, David. I know how much you’ve put into this, for years, and it has made a difference. New Brunswick is a better place because of you."
