We’re Having a Baby on a Remote Island… and the House Is Falling Apart

We’re having a baby out here on the island in Newfoundland! Life off-grid just got a whole lot more real. This week we share our pregnancy news and then discover that the old house we’re fixing up for the baby was basically falling apart beneath us. We are so excited to finally share that Kelly is three months pregnant. We’ve dreamed about raising a family out here, and now it’s really happening. Right after we shared the news, we got straight to work. We ripped out the old bathroom that hasn’t worked in years, tossed the rotten boards out the window, and tore up every inch of the floor — even the old joists. What we found underneath was rough… the whole house had been sitting on old logs and a big rock for decades. With the clock ticking, I got up early, took the boat to the mainland to pick up a load of lumber, and our good friend Albert came out to help. By the end of the day we had a brand new floor down, ready to keep moving forward. We ended the week with a sit-down Q&A that turned into an honest talk about what we’re really feeling as we get ready to welcome our baby into this off-grid life.
