Mayor’s controversial gas-plant statement survives tied Tantramar council vote |

"Mike says:

I guess nobody’s paying attention to the current BESS incident happening at the solar farm in Summerside, PEI? Toxic plume. Shelter in place, voluntary evacuation? This is real. People need to understand all the parameters of any technology- conventional or emerging.https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/prince-edward-island/pei-summerside-solar-farm-fire-school-cancelled-9.7336769

  • Percy Best Best says:

Since the cause of the Summerside fire was from the heavy driving rain intruding into the battery containers, I do wonder why they did not put an open sided canopy system over all of the battery packs and install many of their solar panels on top, like a large flat topped building would have.

It would be a much more efficient way to utilize land than they did with the independent, open to the weather installation.

It would have provided a basically dry enclosure for the battery packs similar to the canopies at gas stations and this fire event may not have occurred.

    • Mike says:

I see your point – however, the batteries have to be enclosed in a weather tight, temperature controlled environment much like a shipping container (heating, cooling, ventilation) to a sweet spot of 70F. The Battery failure occurs when that temperature is not maintained. When they discovered the failure they first had to isolate it from the rest of the enclosures. When it starts to burn it can’t be extinguished – water doesn’t work. Foaming it to smother it doesn’t work. It doesn’t need air to burn as it’s self consuming. If you could safely lift it with a cherry picker and drop it into a deep pool, it’d keep burning. So plume monitoring and collection of contaminated water is about all they can do. The temp can reach 1000 F – explosion can occur"

Beauce Ceramics Collection - Quebec Canada - Musee de la civilisation Youtube

I found this "Maman" ceramic cup by Beauce at the local "Sally Anne" shop in Sackville N.B.  Sweet find... just a few dollars.  More recently I also found the same cup on ebay selling for $40, amazingly.  Invest in vintage creations... and history by thrifting for goods in the "reusing" economy.  Save money!

Along with the Montreal School of Furniture and the School of Sculpture in Saint-Jean-Port-Joli, the Beauce School of Ceramics left its mark on Quebec history. This innovative project, initially aimed at slowing rural exodus and combating unemployment in this agroforestry region, is in fact a reflection of a Quebec society that was constantly evolving throughout the 20th century. The Beauce ceramics collection at the Musée de la civilisation covers all periods of the company's production, from its more artisanal beginnings in 1940, through the industrial era of the 1950s and 60s, to the company's closure in 1989. It represents the most significant ceramic production in Quebec during the 20th century. Guests
  • Guy Toupin, curator in charge of the collection
  • Richard Dubé, private collector and co-author of the book Céramique de Beauce
  • Véronique Martel, ceramicist and professor at the Maison des métiers d'art de Québec"
