As a matter of concern I re-share this article from CHMA FM about aggressive geese. I love our waterfowl park as its spectacular -- its the most amazing place I've ever spent time ... its an oasis in the middle of town that we are blessed to be able to enjoy freely for the most part ...
Heron spotting!
For me Canada Geese are the least likeable feature of this park in my opinion for very good reason.
This of course is an amusing spin for two reasons:
1. Any animals aggressive in the wild towards humans would have been hunted and killed back in the good old days; and
2. Parents of humans who seek to protect their children today from threats are considered crazy 'anti-vaxxers'. Such a double standard eh?
The level of cognitive dissonance always amuses me in this town...
One thing I know about these geese after a dozen years living here: they don't need protection from humans because they can fly anywhere they want to including out of the country... so why are they afforded the luxury of protection when they're so bloody vicious? Conservationists are dupes... and they seem to be able to gather a lot of money.
Perhaps we have too much fondness for 'all nature in general' when there are some really unlikeable species in the wild if you were to be honest... its to the point of being ridiculous... if you've seen the damage a deer crossing the highway totalling vehicles and killing people in some cases you would not find it essential to protect them but rather consider them overpopulating and worth hunting to reduce their numbers... but that's a whole other discussion, right?Ducks, heron as well as pheasants here are all rather groovy, cute, polite and nice .. never had a problem yet with the local ducks and pheasants.. and visiting heron... ever.
