This was Councillor Evans's response to my letter to the Mayor and Council four years ago, when Mr. Lafford submitted his plan to build his upscale apartment building for seniors overlooking the swan pond. I urged Council to take this opportunity to engage developers on the need for safe, accessible housing for low- and fixed-income seniors. Bill Evans and Megan Mitton were the only councillors who replied. (The Mayor never did either.)

Thanks for taking the time to write and share your thoughts, Judith. The public hearing is for a proposed amendment to the zoning by-law to re-zone (from institutional to mixed-use) the last part of the property that JN Lafford acquired from the Sackville United Church a few years ago. This is something that I support for the reasons I've given at two previous public meetings.

Any future development will have to comply with all existing environmental, construction and planning regulations. What developers choose to build on private property is up to them and the market will determine whether there is a demand for it. While there is significant affordable housing available in Sackville, much of it may not be particularly attractive. To my understanding, the most effective way to supply "accessible, safe, and clean housing for low-income seniors" would be by subsidizing the rent for those seniors. While many of us might support this idea, that area is the responsibility of the provincial government.

The so-called 'crisis' is a created one in this town of so-called 'big brains'... its called manufacturing scarcity.. this is the goal of U.N. Agenda 2030 sustainable development and yes this is something that hurts humans.. not helps them... those promoting 'sustainable development' utter their words like a mantra because they are in a cult but they simply do not see the devastation this agenda has on their fellow humans... why?
