Hurricane Melissa, a Category 5 storm and the strongest to lash the island since record-keeping began 174 years ago, made landfall on Jamaica's southwestern coast shortly after 1 p.m. ET. Stephanie Brayford, a Canadian stuck in Jamaica, describes how her family is hunkering down as the hurricane hits the region.
