Standing up for what? The hospital was largely saved by the efforts of two former mayors, not hers. She brought nothing to this town to improve the economy or jobs. She has no economic plans…..just out there trying to shut stuff down. She’s too far left and not practical enough for most of us. If it wasn’t for the University and their ilk, she would not be elected.

Comment from Bruce Wark: Thanks for your comment Allen, but I’m afraid you are rewriting history. The reason that Blaine Higgs cancelled his plans to close rural hospitals, including Sackville’s in February 2020, was that he had a minority government with the Greens holding 3 seats and the People’s Alliance holding 3 more. Green leader David Coon said openly his party would vote to bring the government down if it pressed ahead with its plans. Megan Mitton held one of those three seats. The two former Sackville mayors had no power to bring the government down, but Megan Mitton and her fellow elected Greens did. And that’s why Higgs abandoned his plans and moreover, refused to honour his promise to come to Sackville and explain his position. I covered it all and saw it happen. So, please don’t rewrite history this way."

Punishing tariffs from Canada's closest ally are driving the federal government to seek to strengthen ties with former adversaries such as China and India. Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand tells Power & Politics that these conversations are not coming at the expense of protecting Canada's sovereignty and public safety.

They call "Academic" Anita "The All-Round Fixer" ..

"Academic Career

Anita Anand began her academic career in 1997. She served for two years as an adjunct assistant professor at the Faculty of Law at the University of Western Ontario. She then moved to the Faculty of Law at Queen's University as an assistant professor. Anand earned international recognition in 2005–06, when she was a Canada-U.S. Fulbright Scholar and Visiting Olin Scholar in Law and Economics at Yale Law School. She was also a visiting scholar at the Bank of Canada and the University of Cambridge.

In 2006, Anand became a full professor at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Law. She was the faculty’s associate dean from 2007 to 2009. She was also the university’s academic director of the Centre for the Legal Profession; the J.R. Kimber Chair in Investor Protection and Corporate Governance; a senior fellow and member of the governing board at Massey College; and the director of policy and research at the Capital Markets Institute at the Rotman School of Management. 

In 2015, the Ontario government appointed Anand to its Expert Committee to Consider Financial Advisory and Financial Planning Policy Alternatives. She led research projects for Ontario's Five Year Review Committee. She also served on the federal government’s Task Force to Modernize Securities Legislation in Canada and its Wise Person's Committee."

"In the early 1960s, Anand’s mother and father, Saroj Daulat Ram and Sundaram Vivek Anand—an anaesthetist and general surgeon—were living in Nigeria with their preschool-aged daughter, Gita, when Sundaram travelled to investigate the possibility of immigrating to Canada or the United States. The first place he landed was Halifax. He rented a car, drove to Nova Scotia’s bucolic Annapolis Valley and discovered the right place for his family. They settled in Kentville, a picturesque town of 6,000, where Anita was born in 1967 and her sister Sonia in 1968. They were one of the few South Asian families around at the time, and with no relatives in Canada, they grew up knit tightly to each other and their hometown. “We were definitely distinct,” Anand says. “But by the same token, we were one of the community.”"

Of note, Anita Anand's older sister is Gita Anand a Mount Allisonian [ Class of 1982 ] .. the sisters come from an immigrant Hindu family that settled in Kentville, Nova Scotia in the 1960s. Gita Anand was back here visiting town in May 2025 for a Grace Annie Lockhart celebratory event..

Grace was the first woman to graduate in a Commonwealth nation here in 1875.. of note Grace was not allowed to wear the 'robes' of a graduate.

"Anand was elected as the MP for Oakville in the October 2019 election and was appointed to the Cabinet in November. In the 29th Canadian Ministry, chaired by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Anand was first the minister of public services and procurement, where she was responsible for the federal government's procurement of vaccines and personal protective equipment during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, she became the minister of national defence and played a key role in Canadian efforts to provide military aid to Ukraine during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. Anand was the president of the Treasury Board from 2023 to 2024 and the minister of transport and internal trade from 2024 to 2025. In 2021, Anand was named Canada's "most valuable politician" by The Hill Times,^[4] and in 2022, Maclean's described her as the Trudeau government's "all-round fixer".^[3]
