Update: Molly Kool Award Celebration
The celebration honouring Kathy Weir, our 2026 Molly Kool Award recipient, will be moved to a new date later this fall, as Kathy will be out of the country on the originally scheduled date."

Friends of Fundy is pleased to announce Kathy Weir of Riverside Albert, Fundy Albert as the recipient of the 2026 Molly Kool Award.
The award honours a woman in Southeastern New Brunswick who enriches the fabric of her community, through her work, her volunteering, or her personal endeavours, and who would not normally seek recognition for it. It carries the name of Molly Kool of Alma, who in 1939 became the first woman in North America licensed as a master mariner, and who is remembered for her determination and pioneering spirit.
Kathy's contributions reach across public service, tourism & hospitality and community life. As previous Manager of Broadleaf Ranch, she has combined entrepreneurial drive with genuine hospitality, helping raise the profile of tourism in the region. She served for many years as President of the Albert County Tourism Association and as President of the Tourism Industry Association of New Brunswick, where she gave local businesses a strong voice, championed the pride that comes with welcoming visitors to our communities, and mentored others in the industry. She also served for many years as a paramedic with Ambulance New Brunswick and was recognized as a respected colleague and leader in this role.
Her supporters point to her foresight on regional infrastructure, including her advocacy for the Fundy Trail Connector, and to her service on the Board of Directors at Cape Enrage, where she helped share the natural and cultural heritage of the Bay of Fundy with visitors.
Kathy's volunteer commitments are wide-ranging. She is Treasurer of the Chipoudy Community Revitalization Committee, Board Chair of Forestdale Home and weekly volunteer for the Shepody Food Bank. She has also volunteered with the Albert County Exhibition, and the Fundy Curling Club. Her long service to the people of New Brunswick has been recognized with the King Charles III Coronation Medal.
"What sets Kathy apart is not only the extent of her contributions but also the heart with which she serves. She approaches every task, no matter how large or small,
with kindness, humility, and a genuine desire to make a difference. Her leadership inspires others to get involved, and her example encourages collaboration, resilience, and hope."
Friends of Fundy received a number of wonderful nominations this year from across Southeastern New Brunswick, each celebrating women who make a difference in their communities every day. We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who took the time to nominate and to write letters of support.
Congratulations, Kathy.
