Skote Outdoors - Newfoundland Youtubers Awaiting Arrival of Their Baby Boy by Unassisted Home Birth

At this link:  I Tore the Back of Our House Off… Still Waiting for Baby

Lots of concern [understandably] for the couple in the comments section:

As much as I hope they are ok, it’s hard to trust that this young couple will handle this birth on their own when they didn’t even realize burning wood with lead paint could poison them. There is a reason people lived in communities in “the old days” and had midwives. I do hope Kelly & baby are ok, but statistically speaking free birthing is high risk activity that unnecessarily puts mom and baby at risk. Never mind Matt coming out of this unscathed. At the end of the day, they are risking the wellbeing of an innocent baby who didn’t have a choice. Building inspectors might not travel out there, but child welfare workers will. I hope they beat the odds! Kids if you’re reading this please, for the love of god, go to a hospital to have this baby. You won’t lose viewers, you will gain our respect for doing the right thing."

This is heartbreaking. Births don't go wrong for lack of conviction. Ask any of the "little old ladies." The fact that this is a lifelong dream does not make it better. It reveals that this is an increasingly selfish and juvenile fantasy. I cannot imagine asking my (rightly!) terrified husband to deliver our first child alone. Why would you choose to put someone you love in a situation where they are guaranteed to be powerless if something goes wrong?"

This comment isn't directed specifically to Kelly/Matt, as they've made up their minds. This is directed to anyone who claims people are being "mean" and "cruel" by telling their own birth stories. Two things can be true at once, a story can be both "negative", but also extremely TRUE. Humans are natural story tellers, our ancestors told stories to educate and warn future generations. History in all its forms (birth, conflict, settlements/homesteading, etc, etc ....) includes so many harsh and raw realities. Just because it makes you uncomfortable to hear a certain story, does not mean you should ignore it. History is not told to make us feel better, it's meant to make us DO better. Anyway, thank you to each person who told their real, raw, and true birthing stories. It may not have helped this couple, but it brought me peace, healing, and a sense that I'm not alone in regard to my own experiences with fertility and birth."

Hello Kelly. I was thinking, since yall are just mostly waiting for the birth, it would be so calming to take one day and go be checked by a medical doctor. Just to be able to breath easy. It would be a wise decision for yourself and baby. I think for Matt as well. If everything is fine, you can come back home and have your baby as planned. It’s just one day."
