Saturday January 18th Tantramar hosted the Mayor's Roundtable on Housing public session. The pictures seen here (courtesy of Josh Goguen - Councillor, Town of Tantramar ) are part of the results of more than 90 people who showed up for the event, and another 26 stakeholders from a session that happened the day before.
We had people from all backgrounds and some key groups as well such as Marshwinds, Greater Dorchester Moving Forward Co-op, local food banks, RHAG members, private and non-profit developers and even the provincial Minister of Housing David Hickey in attendance.
Next steps include compiling the incredible amount of data over the two days and putting it together to share widely so that people know they have been heard. But it's not just being heard....it is the knowledge that collectively we are moving the needle on the housing crisis and what it means for residents of Tantramar."
After all if you live in Sackville NB [as I have since 2010] then you are a stakeholder.. and if you pay property taxes you are an invested stakeholder.. you should ALL have your say on anything to do with big 'community plans' and future projects.. right? Its only fair.
Unfortunately, my dear readers I'm not allowed by the "community" on Facebook and I cannot comment on his Worship's post there.. so I have this blog.. with a hashtag.. #BuildBackBeauty .. because 'housing' is an industry best left to 'real builders & doers'.
As someone who attended this "consensus building session" I can confirm that I stood at the side of the podium next to Andrew Black who did not acknowledge me nor allow me to speak... but started to move the crowd into groups and manage the content and construct of the gathering.. so .. is it really a very fruitful process? Silliness. Ha!
Its clear there is a strong desire to control the narrative and I will put on the record that Andrew Black's 'cockblocking' is a public embarrassment at this point; it is humorous to me but nonetheless should be seen by all as very tiresome in 2025. What will Black's legacy project here be? Eventually when he is voted out for the next Mayor I wonder if he will reflect on his inability to truly embrace "diversity of ideas" and the lost years of opportunities ignored during his tenure.
This is a "housing opportunity" not a "housing crisis" the language you use matters... speak with clarity, be hopeful.
After appeal, Twitter fails to re-instate "Kata List Productions" @laughingatcommi.. but my answer is a "no" ... no thanks to Elon Musk.. whatever the technocrat and Jesuit stooge is selling .. I don't want it.

Call me old fashioned but I like a Mayor who "sells" his town as a spokesman for why its a great place to live, do business, start a life, build a life, prosper and thrive.. I don't like a Mayor who continually whines and complains and has endless fears about the climate... one must accentuate the positive if one wishes to grow our town's economy.
I think there is a lot to celebrate here in Canada in 2023 despite the challenges there is hope and there is a great future for our people but it will require leadership [not obediance and submission] with will-power, strength, wisdom, bravery, compassion, intelligence, insights, broad-mindedness, radical inclusion, perseverance, honesty, and a vision for the future... does Andrew Black possess these qualities? Time will tell. I would request that Black instruct his staff to stop blocking commentary at "TantramarNB" on Twitter by Indie Media Eastcoast [same goes for Erica Butler] .. blocking is a sign of weakness.. and shows intolerance for diversity of viewpoints/ideas. Have requested that the Management here attend to the replacement of the missing September 14th "Dear X" plaque for the Poetry on the Poles by Douglas Lochhead a number of times but it is still missing and they have re-arranged the plaques to hide the reality that this plaque is missing from the landscape.. why? As nothing has been done for over a year by the Management a further request was lodged with Town Councillor Bruce Phinney who had advised that he would look into it.
This negligence by the Management is disrespectful to the family of Douglas Lochhead who was the Town's first Poet Laureate..
