Open Sky Co-operative has over 12 years of experience supporting young adults experiencing barriers due to autism, learning disabilities, and mental health challenges. We offer a unique program building social and practical skills through the daily and seasonal rhythms of farm life and community connections.
Open Sky is a beautiful, welcoming place to be. On an 11-acre farm in newly formed municipality of Tantramar (Sackville) NB, we have a farmhouse, barn, "maker space", greenhouses and many acres of lawns, gardens and pasture. Day programs, training and activities are provided for adults who live locally to improve their skills and well-being, as well as learn and do organic farming and gardening. We have helped participants launch co-operatives and businesses, that provide employment for people who face barriers. There are also rooms in the farmhouse that can provide a transitional residence for those ready to try independent living.
An exciting development is the addition of retail greenhouse in 2023, growing and selling bedding plants and providing new training and employment opportunities for neurodivergent individuals locally.
Everyone can benefit from living and working in a healthy environment, with gentle relationships and within an understanding and supportive community. Extra skilled support is invaluable, especially for those already disempowered by challenging life experiences.
Open Sky has expertise for adults with autism spectrum disorder, providing unique and effective skills programming, tailored to meet needs identified by a functional skills assessment. Open Sky is the only such service provider in the Maritimes."

Our Insights Podcast this week features a conversation with Rannie MacDonald, the VP of JD Irving's Retail Division and Patrick O'Neil, the General Manager of Kent Building Supplies that is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. Since its founding in Bouctouche (Kent County), Kent has become the market leader in the region in building supplies. Most Atlantic Canadians have shopped at a Kent's at one time or the other. The company has 48 retail outlets ranging in size from its large big box stores of up to 125,000 square feet to its smaller 24,000 square foot sized traditional stores located in smaller communities. Kent has become one of the region's largest private sector employers, with 3,700 full-time employees generating more than $200 million in wages that are mostly spent in the region. It supports nearly 1,400 vendors in the region, spending $300 million a year on local goods and services. It has a major 560,000 square foot distribution centre in Moncton with over 25,000 product skus and sources the vast majority of its products from Canadian manufacturers. Indeed, only 10 percent of their products come from US suppliers. It has spun off Atlas Structural Systems that now has 11 locations and an incremental 600 employees, as well as Industrial Commercial Supplies with another 100 employees. It is proudly an Atlantic Canadian success story and one that you will enjoy learning more about.

The thing that’s becoming impossible to ignore for me is how successfully the Liberals have used Trump to blur the line between 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝗯𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘆 and 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗱𝗮.
Those aren’t the same thing.
But that’s increasingly how the argument’s being framed.
If you oppose the Liberals, criticize their record, question their decisions, or refuse to fall in line behind them, suddenly you’re treated like you’re somehow siding against Canada with the USA.
𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝗺𝗽’𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘃𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝘁.
The message is basically:
• Trump’s threatens Canada.
• The Liberals are standing up to Trump.
• So if you’re not supporting the Liberals, you must somehow be against Canada.
That’s absurd on it's face.
𝟭. THE LIBERAL PARTY ISN’T CANADA.
𝟮. MARK CARNEY ISN’T CANADA.
𝟯. A SITTING GOVERNMENT ISN’T THE COUNTRY ITSELF.
And criticizing that government doesn’t suddenly become disloyal just because there’s pressure coming from Washington.
What’s especially frustrating is watching some conservatives walk straight into this framing like lemmings.
People who’ve spent years criticizing Liberal policy are now acting like questioning the Liberal government during a dispute with Trump somehow weakens Canada.
𝗜𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀𝗻’𝘁.
You can oppose Trump when he’s wrong. You can defend Canada’s interests. And you can still hold the Liberal government responsible for what it’s done here at home.
𝗧𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻’𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆.
The Liberals have governed this country for more than a decade. Their record doesn’t disappear because Donald Trump’s president.
❌ Housing doesn’t suddenly become affordable.
❌ Productivity problems don’t disappear.
❌ Government spending doesn’t disappear.
❌ Immigration failures don’t disappear.
❌ Economic stagnation doesn’t disappear.
And every other policy failure people were furious about six months ago doesn’t suddenly become irrelevant because the Liberals can point south and say, “TRUMP BAD.”
𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗹𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱.
Trump becomes their shield. The flag becomes their cover.
That should bother conservatives more than anyone.
Because the moment you accept the idea that criticizing the government during an external dispute means criticizing the country, you’ve surrendered one of the most basic distinctions in a democracy:
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗿𝘆.
𝗜𝗧 𝗜𝗦𝗡’𝗧 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗖𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗧𝗥𝗬!
And some conservatives are becoming patsies for exactly this framing.
They’re helping reinforce the Liberal argument that patriotism now means rallying behind the government instead of scrutinizing it. Who has been nothing but a blight and a detriment on our land.
You don’t defend Canada by suspending your judgment of the people running it.
You defend Canada by refusing to let any political party hide behind the flag when they have repeatedly failed.
The Liberals aren’t Canada.
Trump doesn’t change that.

Dominic Leblanc Liberal MP for Beausejour has been serving since November 2000 .. that's a very long time to lead... and he has a lot of experience with politics, people, policy and statesmanship... some have suggested that Mark Carney will be stepping down at some point due to his inability to negotiate and deal effectively with the Americans. Another MP that has served longer than Dominic Leblanc is Ontario Conservative MP Cheryl Gallant who I spoke to by phone in 2023 when I came across this article by her at the "Ontario Landowners" website.

We have got some interesting and noteworthy work going on at the Federal level when it comes to the advancement of Mark Carney's agenda and who is supporting it and who is opposing it.
If you're paying attention you'll definitely notice that something with Carney is not quite right at this point. Pulling in Bryan Adams, a music star who has lived in England for most of his adult life, seems like a desperate move by an ineffectual banker posing as a politician. The "elbows up" = E.U. crowd appear to be blissfully unaware of what is taking place....
As I told Dominic Leblanc's wife Jolene Richard at the Beausejour Forum in 2025 before the last Federal election.. I'd prefer to see Dominic Leblanc lead the Liberals into the future if only because he is not a "net zero" cultist like Mark Carney. Perhaps more people should read Carney's book?
With Justin Trudeau out of the way the focus seems to have shifted to "Donald Trump bad" rather than criticizing the policies of Canada's current Prime Minister Mark Carney who has failed badly in his efforts to revive the Canadian economy - - we were warned about the destructive abilities of Mark Carney by former PM Liz Truss but who listened?
