Meanwhile in the local "smartgrowth" construction world of growing the number of units for non-invested local residents:  John Lafford and building partner Mike Wilson have plans for providing rental apartments at "The York" project set to go ahead after the demolition of four existing retail/apartment rental properties on a section of the downtown which will alter the historic look of the downtown core.

"Lafford said the demolition and construction on the York Street site could start as early as May 2025, and the $25-30 million project would take 18 to 24 months to complete. The proposed building, which will be called The York, will have 80-90 apartments and between 15,000 and 20,000 square feet of commercial space fronting on Ford Lane and York Street, said Lafford."

Liberty Freedom Consortium: Thanks Bruce Phinney Town Councillor - Tantramar

Liberty Freedom Consortium: Thanks Bruce Phinney Town Councillor - Tantramar:   Thank you Bruce Phinney for discussing the skate park project in town council meeting this week. Vandals may have torn your signs down but...

Butler's report here:

"On Thursday, Active Living director Matt Pryde responded to a question from councillor Bruce Phinney to say that staff were considering the former BMX park on Dufferin Street as a potential location for the proposed dog park. “It hasn’t been used for a while,” said Pryde. “This past summer, it wasn’t maintained at all, and there’s been no comments or questions about it.”

Phinney also asked about the oft-discussed plan to build a concrete skate park in Sackville. Beal said it was still on the future major projects wish list, where it’s sat for years.

Back in 2021, Phinney was one of the councillors who killed a plan to commission a $12,500 study from Newline Skateparks to look at the options and feasibility for a new skate park. Councillors Matt Estabrooks and Michael Tower also voted against the study at the time."

Note to Erica Butler over at the campus radio station... you've misreported, either accidentally or deliberately, the intentions of long time Town Councillor Bruce Phinney in supporting the new concrete Tantramar Skate Park Project and that's unfortunate.  Bruce Phinney is one of the few who has consistently been in support of a new concrete skatepar venue.  Wishing not to waste money on a report is not opposing a skatepark project.. think about it.. and.. try harder Erica.  You've been asked to report on the skatepark project yourself but you have never done so.. why is that? I suspect I know why.. probably for the same reason you block me on Twitter.  Coward.

Committee of the Whole Meeting - November 25, 2024 - Municipality of Tantramar

Mayor Andrew Black returns to preside over this meeting and is oddly wearing a black face diaper.

The meeting begins with a presentation from their newly sworn in Dr. Ian Sutherland [he/they] president of Mount Allison University who speaks on an extensive and costly/lengthy $95.1 million project involving the R.P. Bell Library - an epic "make-over" on the campus.  As well, looking on from the town hall audience were some notable heavy-hitter locals including Freshwinds Eric Tusz-King, Garth Zwicker, and builder John Lafford.

The question remains:  would this large amount of money ($95million+) be better spent on more campus affordable housing for students?  Discuss.

Additionally of note, tourism minion Ron Kelly Spurles, a long time trougher Town Hall staffer, with 10+ years on the gravy train wants you to know we are on "unceded" lands and should be concerned about climate change.  Ron's wife is equally well paid long time associate Prof. Patricia Kelly Spurles of Mount Allison University.

Obediant Mayor Andrew Black felt the need to tell us that he has taken a butterfly pledge "Monarch".
