Divest MTA - Ten Years On ....

"Divest MTA" activists are celebrating ten years of protesting and marches today but what is their message?  Erica Butler CHMA spoke with two of the anti-oil and gas student group members who are demonstrating at "Centennial Hall" and who have asked others to show their support by joining them occupying space there:

"Mount Allison University is a primarily undergraduate Canadian liberal arts and science university located in Sackville, New Brunswick. It has been ranked the top undergraduate university in the country for 18 of the last 25 years by Maclean's magazine. With a 17:1 student-to-faculty ratio, the average first-year class size is 65 and upper-year classes average 14 students.Mount Allison University was the first university in the British Empire to award a baccalaureate to a woman . Mount Allison graduates have been awarded a total of 53 Rhodes Scholarships. American chemist James B. Sumner, who later won Nobel Prize in Chemistry, used to work at Mount Allison as a teaching fellow. Mount Allison also has one of the largest endowments per student in Canada.HistoryMount Allison University is a United Church-affiliated, but non-sectarian university which was established at Sackville, New Brunswick on January 19, 1843. The university was named after Charles Frederick Allison, in honour of his gift of land and money. Its origins were steeped in the Methodist faith. It was designed to prepare men for the ministry and to supply education for lay members. The university was chartered on April 14, 1849.Mount Allison's origins however go back to a boys' academy founded in June 1839 by a local Methodist merchant, Charles Frederick Allison. Charles Allison's grandfather had emigrated from Ireland to Canada in the late 18th century because of the after effects of a dinner with the local government tax collector. Wanting to impress the man, the family had set the table with their one valuable possession: silver spoons. After entertaining their guest, the Allisons were informed by the tax collector that if they could afford silver spoons, then they could certainly afford to pay more taxes. The Allisons left Ireland shortly thereafter. The offending spoons are now on display in the university library." [ the spoons are historic, not offending... not sure why this passage reads this way or who wrote it ]

Alex Epstein: "The Moral Case for Fossil Fuels" | Talks at Google

I've been waiting a few years now [since 2016] for Mount Allison University to bring Alex Epstein to the campus for a talk .. this should be arranged.. why?  Countering the damage that people like Naomi Klein have been doing to the reputation of fossil fuels, energy, freedom, capitalism and prosperity.. that's why...
and to keep things in perspective folks .. keep it real around here... fossil fuels have improved the lives of millions of people on the planet - politicians not so much .. politicians are parasites... I'm not happy about this fact but the anti-fossil fuels professors are also parasites and have a very negative attitude towards the hard-working people in ethical Canadian oil and gas industries.. its just a simple fact and they're teaching young people to protest these industries too .. not good .. thanks goodness for the philosopher Kings such as Alex Epstein who show human concern as their top priority and primary interest - its a voice not heard enough around here http://tantramarlandownersassociation.blogspot.com/2019/01/mount-allison-university-is-decidedly.html

From Edmonton Alberta to the Maritimes.... Tina's passion

Contributor:

" Tina Yeonju Oh
Friends, I had a once in a lifetime opportunity to share my story through a beautifully documented mini-biopic directed by Storyline. Please watch in HD!!! 💗
We filmed this video in late August –a few days before I moved to Halifax to start my masters at Dalhousie. Those weeks were the most anxiety-filled moments (so far) in my life, as I transitioned communities and reflected on an eventful few years in Sackville (—maybe you can spot the lil nervous errors I make in the video ...oops). I tried showcasing my favourite places in Sackville: the Tantramar marshes, Black Duck Café, the windmills in Cumberland,Sackville Community Garden, and the quad where we held out camp-out.
After my impeachment and resignation from the students’ union, DivestMTA showed me what community, friendship, forgiveness, leadership, and bold action looked like. I have so much overwhelming love for this campaign and everyone who struggled to challenge, question and act. We allowed ourselves to be vulnerable and care deeply about something so much that we spent countless, unquestioned hours cutting a million orange little squares, cooking for community meals, writing press releases and reports, inviting/creating community and starting difficult conversations.
Shoutout to my sis, Shannon, who is so freaking eloquent and whom I trust the most to challenge me. And the wonderful Aidan, Percy, Matt for being such goddamn beautiful people and spending a dog day afternoon in the lazy August sun making pizza in the bake oven.

Art shared from Edmonton Climate Justice SJWS...

Its OK to support Canadian industry.
Its OK to promote dialogue and free speech.
Its OK to have a different opinion from the crowd at "Divest MTA".. many do not share the goals of this extremely radical anti-industry on-campus group that seems to try to dominate the entire narrative.
If you don't support this woman's ongoing actions -- like me -- you'll be welcome at http://canadaaction.ca .. I will continue to advocate SUPPORT for Canadian oil and gas and oil sands and pipelines.

I advocate as well .. for Tina and her fellow quarter of a million Haligonians..... my passion is safe drinking water.... I am concerned this issue is ignored by too many people and I help raise awareness.
Working with Safe Water Moncton in 2010 were we able to remove fluoridation in 2011.. success.

I respect the right of all Canadians to promote what they wish to promote.. but I challenge them too.

Artivism, Activism, and the Cult of Divest

{ Tina Oh and Shannon Power }

*They won't debate.. they refuse to engage... they dislike any narrative that goes against their beliefs.. they operate on emotion not facts... they're 'divesters' ..

*Shit communitarians do .. mta.ca is producing a lot of young protestor culture SJWs who are unable to think outside the box their professors have put them into.. advice:  " divest collectivism, use discernment" ... co2 is not a pollutant.. carbon tax is theft .. Canada is a carbon sink .... http://plantsneedco2.org .. support our energy sectors at http://canadaaction.ca [ free stickers ]

As far as groups go this has to be one of the most millitant ones in town since I arrived here in 2010.
Also, if you do decide you want to oppose them you will be labelled "hyper conservative" and possibly "neo-nazi" .. who knew that standing up for oil and gas projects in Canada was the work of "nazis"? They've felt very smug in their group and have labelled me a "white supremacist" .. God knows why?

Lauren Latour has insisted that "no one wants to engage with me" .. if so, why?

Finally, since the cult leader is also rather well known it is best to engage her online as she is prone to hysterics, calling the police and sending the 'mob' after you for daring to oppose her rhetoric... debating is not a strong point with these youngsters.. they seem to have reached "peak misery" .. I wish them well... I put the blame upon their professor -- Bradley "Angry Man" Walters.. and others like him who have a hate for our industries that's unfathomable.. does the man drive a car or what? Radicalizing our youth into hysterical people who cannot debate facts is not good work Brad... eh?
