In answer to the question of how important fossil fuels are to our life in Canada...  here's some books to help your education progress..

What about this:  they help you survive in the cold weather, move your products and food and build your economy, heat your homes, run your vehicles, snowplows, busses, create endless products that you happily use including your handy cell phones and laptops, and the boots for walking the snowy streets [while complaining about fossil fuels]. 

Be grateful and be real.  Meanwhile, at the university faculty lounges the well paid chattering class bash away at the 'bad guys in Canadian industries', just cos they can....

Its a pity that these students who pay so much money to attend this campus have such bad advice given to them when they expect an 'enlightened' campus culture.  I suspect that youngsters Helen and Nick are in the minority of students.

Common sense about fossil fuels is a good thing.

I've been waiting a few years now [since 2016] for Mount Allison University to bring Alex Epstein to the campus for a talk .. this should be arranged.. why?  Countering the damage that people like Naomi Klein have been doing to the reputation of fossil fuels, energy, freedom, capitalism and prosperity.. that's why...
and to keep things in perspective folks .. keep it real around here... fossil fuels have improved the lives of millions of people on the planet - politicians not so much .. politicians are parasites... I'm not happy about this fact but the anti-fossil fuels professors are also parasites and have a very negative attitude towards the hard-working people in ethical Canadian oil and gas industries.. its just a simple fact and they're teaching young people to protest these industries too .. not good .. thanks goodness for the philosopher Kings such as Alex Epstein who show human concern as their top priority and primary interest - its a voice not heard enough around here http://tantramarlandownersassociation.blogspot.com/2019/01/mount-allison-university-is-decidedly.html
