Why Are New Brunswick's Covered Bridges Really Disappearing From the Landscape? #CulturalErasure
When the "government" has no mandate to preserve what is distinct about the landscape.. things are lost and they don't return by magic. Its important to understand the people who built these covered bridges did so for a reason; our current lack of knowledge about our past makes it easy for us to be targets for "gaslighting" and abuse; and that's already happening in this province, sadly. Society is not just an accident.. and certain people build and develop and create.. there is beauty in these wooden structures.. so why would they be targets for erasure? MINIMALISTIC CONCRETE HOUSE with ART in its INTERIOR | AMAZING HOUSES
God bless the designers, doers, builders, architects, tradesmen, workers, and craftsman who create housing... it is not the job of government to interfere with the creative process of home creation. Governments are good at one thing: growing more government through higher taxation. Keep that in mind when they tell you are there are plans to create housing.. it will be 'sovietized' housing from crony club members. Do we want our government controlling every single aspect of our lives including homes... Why? Government just needs to get out of the way and let the creative builders build homes by incentivizing that work: lower taxes and permitting fees, removing obstacles that speed up their efforts and that's really all. Of course our schools could do more to help create "hands on" workers with skills for building but that's another topic entirely - in the 1980s the 'shop classes' that we had in our schools were terrific and informative -- why were they removed? There is an abundance of land for lots of affordable home builds available in Tantramarshire for much needed housing projects. Andrew Black's commentary that we need 'densification' of housing is not true or correct.

Portugal Tackling Housing Problems: Strategies of Government
"LISBON (Reuters) -Portugal announced on Thursday a hefty package of measures to tackle a housing crisis, including the end of its controversial "Golden Visa" scheme and a ban on new licenses for Airbnbs and other short-term holiday rentals.
Rents and house prices have skyrocketed in Portugal, which is among the poorest countries in Western Europe. Last year, more than 50% of workers earned less than 1,000 euros per month while in Lisbon alone, rents jumped 37% in 2022.
Low salaries, a red-hot property market, policies encouraging wealthy foreigners to invest and a tourism-dependent economy have for years made it hard for locals to rent or buy, housing groups have said. Portugal's 8.3% inflation rate has exacerbated the problem."

"But one thing is clear: The Southeast Regional Service Commission (SERSC), which currently provides land use planning and garbage disposal services to cities, towns and villages in Westmorland and Albert counties, is gearing up for a major expansion.
During her presentation to Sackville town council this week, Stephanie Thorne, the Commission’s chief financial officer, said SERSC has drafted a $26.2 million budget for next year — a 17% increase to help provide five additional services that the Town of Tantramar and other municipalities will pay for.
The services include regional transportation; regional social and community development; regional sport, recreation and cultural infrastructure; regional economic development and regional tourism.

Thorne said SERSC plans to hire a director for each of the five new services at annual salaries of $110,000. Regional social and community development will also need two co-ordinators at $90,000 salaries while economic development will be hiring a specialist at an unspecified salary.
According to the draft budget, existing services — land use planning and solid waste disposal — are projected to cost $24.1 million next year, a 10.7% increase. Tantramar’s share will be just over $555 thousand.
The five new services are initially expected to cost about $1.5 million with Tantramar paying just over $58 thousand."

Today I had the good fortune to talk with Sen. Beyak. We had a wide-ranging and interesting chat together and hopefully we will speak again. I am very encouraged by her words and her deeds and her courage and her kindness towards me.
Recommending more voices; not less .. and less censorship .. in 2019 & onwards.
