Bruno, I’d say this is a classic case of blaming or “shooting” the messenger. Bruce provides solid, journalistically sound, relevant news coverage on his website. He does not control what people say about the news on various social media sites (and I agree with you that people say a lot of garbage in various FB comments).

It’s true that if we didn’t have Bruce’s reporting, we wouldn’t have news that sometimes looks bad on Town Council or administration (e.g., the fire dept. problems). But not reporting on local issues doesn’t make the issues go away.

Good journalism shines a light on issues that those in public office would often prefer remain out of the public eye. If you can point to any misinformation or inaccuracies in Bruce’s reporting, please do. Again, I would ask you for some examples from Bruce’s articles to back up your assertion.

By credentials alone, Bruce is a respected journalist (professor emeritus of journalism from University of King’s College; retired CBC reporter and editor where he produced The House, World at Six, World Report, and Sunday Magazine, and served as national reporter for the Maritimes & Queen’s Park reporter in Ontario; columnist at the Halifax Daily News & the Coast; journalist at 3 private radio stations before CBC. If that’s not a reporter, I don’t know what is.)

All journalists’ best editors are the public: If reporters misrepresent things and get facts wrong, they lose public trust and are no longer a credible source of news. Bruce is always quick to respond and correct when he gets anything wrong, like any respectable news outlet.

Finally, as Bruce’s spouse and a former journalist at the Ottawa Citizen & editing instructor myself (now a research librarian), I play an unofficial role as his editor! I don’t oversee everything he writes, but I do provide a second set of eyes and advice when I think a story should have a different focus or could use some tweaking. "But one thing is clear: The Southeast Regional Service Commission (SERSC), which currently provides land use planning and garbage disposal services to cities, towns and villages in Westmorland and Albert counties, is gearing up for a major expansion.

During her presentation to Sackville town council this week, Stephanie Thorne, the Commission’s chief financial officer, said SERSC has drafted a $26.2 million budget for next year — a 17% increase to help provide five additional services that the Town of Tantramar and other municipalities will pay for.

The services include regional transportation; regional social and community development; regional sport, recreation and cultural infrastructure; regional economic development and regional tourism.

Thorne said SERSC plans to hire a director for each of the five new services at annual salaries of $110,000. Regional social and community development will also need two co-ordinators at $90,000 salaries while economic development will be hiring a specialist at an unspecified salary.

According to the draft budget, existing services — land use planning and solid waste disposal — are projected to cost $24.1 million next year, a 10.7% increase. Tantramar’s share will be just over $555 thousand.

The five new services are initially expected to cost about $1.5 million with Tantramar paying just over $58 thousand."

I'm sure he is a nice man as I met him briefly on the street one day

I don't watch TV or pay much attention to CBC..... "Sackville Uncensored" exists entirely because of censorship in Sackville NB at the management levels both at Mount Allison University & Town of Sackville Facebook pages back in 2015 which apparently got me branded a 'low class, unimportant, trouble-maker' according to an undisclosed source [2019].  Asking questions is my forte.... but apparently here that's a no-no.

the blog only exists because of intolerance of DIVERSITY OF OPINIONS AND IDEAS.. its shocking how badly the intelligensia view diversity of ideas and expression of opinion -- its why I would warn anyone away from attending at mta.ca at this point in time ... and being branded as trouble-maker is what happens to so many of us who do not embrace the Liberal government's unprecedented MASS IMMIGRATION policy as such a great idea for the health and welfare of those people already living here who are struggling to find affordable housing, living wage jobs and some stability and financial security in their lives:
