The Wolastoqey Nation in New Brunswick (WNNB), Mi’gmawe’l Tplu’taqnn Inc. (MTI) and the Government of New Brunswick are pleased to announce a significant step forward in recognizing Indigenous rights and relationships.

Effectively immediately, Indigenous Peoples, regardless of the province they reside, will receive free access to all provincial parks managed by the Department of Tourism, Heritage and Culture.

This measure represents the Government of New Brunswick’s commitment to reconciliation and honours the deep connection Indigenous Peoples have with lands and waters.

Megan Mitton this week:

"But later, Tantramar Heritage Trust Past President Logan Atkinson said he feared that time had run out for the 110-year-old covered bridge and that farmers would now lose another year waiting for construction of a newer one beside it.

“I don’t think they would put up with that,” he said, “so that means that the only outcome has to be taking the [covered] bridge down.”

Mitton replied that she spoke to DTI Minister Chuck Chiasson last week who said officials had been trying to reach the owner of the land where the new bridge would go.

“The soil may be an issue in terms of what’s possible to build there,” she said, adding that in order to get environmental approvals, there would need to be an archeological investigation to determine if there are Indigenous artefacts there.

“So, I’m pushing them to move faster,” Mitton said, adding that she would be meeting the district engineer on Friday and the DTI minister again next week."

Tantramar Trail Update

The Province announced yesterday that as of 12:01 a.m. this morning, Crown land has reopened for hiking and activity.

Now Open in Tantramar:

Sackville Waterfowl Park

Retention Pond Trails

Rail Trail (managed by the Province)

Still Closed Until Further Notice:

All other municipal trails (phased reopening will follow if conditions improve)

Important Reminders:

The province-wide burn ban remains in effect.

No ignition sources are permitted on trails (matches, lighters, camp stoves, etc.).

Smoking is NOT permitted on any trail.

CSA-approved charcoal BBQs used for cooking at your home are permitted.

The use of charcoal firepits at your homes is NOT currently permitted.

Please note: We will need much more than a few days of rain before wildfire risk is significantly reduced.

Thank you for your cooperation as we continue lean on our residents to ensure our community remains safe from dangers of wildfires.

The $10,000 Black Metal Flower Pot Quiz....

 The Town of Sackville has denied having enough money to build a great new concrete skate park for the youth here since 2013 when they were asked by a group of youth to do this project... 

since that time the Town has recklessly spent many many thousands on these fancy non-essential metal pots [made in Saint John NB I believe] which could have been re-directed to a skatepark project here.

That's how I do math... I'm a practical, economical sort of thinker and if I notice things I point them out... 

So riddle me this... how many pots do you need? Why continue to exhibit non-essential spending?  For the record, if there are more than 25 of these pots dotted all around the Town of Sackville with flowers in them each year doesn't that represent enough money to make a pretty good start on the cost of a skatepark.. spending habits are important to pay attention to... know what I mean?

Money for pricey pots but no money for a one-time cost build low-maintenance youth sports venue.
