We don't know how much the Rogers people are paying Percy Best but we do know that the youth and many others could have benefitted from having this land leased/sold to the Town to build a new great concrete skatepark project on instead of a cell tower, just not something that Andrew Black, Matt Pryde or others in the Town Hall management had felt was important enough to do I reckon.. sadly.  Now we have people pretty upset about a tower near the children in school and the homes behind, such as former Mayor Pat Estabrooks--whose grandson Ethan Sears was part of the crew who made a presentation in Town Hall before then Mayor Bob Berry for the new concrete skatepark project over a decade ago.. poster shown below..

The link provided by Jamie Estabrooks opens a map which shows the locations of the current cell towers already in use in Sackville. The map includes a date menu which goes back as far as 2007, and using that menu one can determine when each tower was installed.

The map shows 2 shared cell towers currently beside the town Water Tower. There are 3 installations – Rogers – which was already in place in 2007; Telus –since October 2012, and Eastlink –since February 2014.

On the Mt A student Library roof, there have been several towers at various times, with the current one being Eastlink – installed October 2014.

On the roof of the hospital there have been several cell towers over the years, with the current one being Bell, installed January 2023.

Finally, on the roof of the AIL office building on York St, next door to the new Lafford-Wilson apartment building, there is a second Bell tower, installed October 2024.

It is interesting to note that these already-existing towers are all located in residential / educational / healthcare / commercial areas, whereas the new one currently being installed by Rogers on Crescent St is the first one ever to be located in the Industrial Park."

The new cell tower will be located just a hop, skip and jump from our VIA RAIL train station.

Percy Best is in his 70s and plays the long game with properties in this town... years ago..

Percy snapped up the property shown above when I had suggested that this property [which was for sale at the time] would make a good location for a new skatepark venue for the Town to purchase.. they ignored me.. he didn't.  Percy also complains constantly online and to anyone who will listen about the youth's skatepark project advocacy that I do.. why?

I guess just having lots of money and property makes you a greedy hoarder Percy Best.. a real nice legacy for your family but a rotten "cell tower" legacy for the town.

What's next?  John Lafford and Mike Wilson/AIL Group put a cell tower on top of their new rental apartment building "The York"?

Ponds Projects Trump Skate Park Concrete Project since 2013.... Regime Change Needed at Town Hall

When you consider that you could build a great concrete skatepark for a one-time expense of half a million bucks its just so tragic to see the money continue to flow into more pointless ponds.... it is as though there is a collective madness controlling the minions at the Palace... who benefits?

Jon, the only one that seems to indicate that retention ponds are the way to go would be the ones that profit from the project itself. One does not need retention ponds of any size when there is only a five hour time slot, twice a day, while gates of a proper sized aboiteau are actually closed because of the salt water tide cycle. A generous ditch system itself would almost be enough to handle any five hour backup, and a proper sized aboiteau, as recommended in the very thorough HILCON report, would then open to allow full drainage over the next approximately seven hours. This would happen twice a day of course.

HILCON did not recommend any retention ponds. The NB Department of Transportation and Infrastructure, that now maintain all the dyking system for NB did not recommend any retention ponds. For some ‘strange reason’ it seems that Crandall Engineering (Englobe) said that the town needs enough water retention for a full 24 hours, and not just for the 5 hours twice a day that an aboiteau gate is closed. It is interesting that the bottom of the newly proposed retention pond behind the Community Garden is going to be FOUR METERS ABOVE SEA LEVEL. That should tell you something.

The little tiny aboiteau (AB-01) in behind Russell Metals, that the town storm water is headed towards,is an very old wooden one that is only 18″ square, and that is not much bigger than a standard driveway culvert. There is no commitment from DTI to replace this abouteau with a larger one. I would imagine that they are now awaiting confirmation that the Chignecto Isthmus Project will indeed go ahead and that will make all aboiteau completely redundant. It would cost somewhere in the vicinity of half a million dollars to replace aboiteau AB-01 with a new larger one.

There will be NO water retained in town once the Chignecto Isthmus Project is completed as the drainage pipes leading to the Tantramar river will be open 24/7 with no restriction whatsoever. A new triple gate system at the mouth of the Tantramar River (Wood Report) will effectively make the Tantramar River a bit of a freshwater lake, similar to what the river is inland from the current double gate beside the TCH at Exit 506. If one looks at the water level that is under the Wheaton Covered Bridge, on the High Marsh Road, then one will basically see what our Tantramar River will be all the way out to the new gate system."

"According to figures supplied to Warktimes by Acting Treasurer Michael Beal, the project could come in $566,905 over budget unless modifications are made to the final contract."

Its a corrupt and lawless bunch who runs things around here... they waste a lot of money... this was the previous town hall and it was fine for a small town when I arrived here in 2010... but they spent over $14million on their new government Town Hall Palace without any regard for other priorities ... this "Agenda" is all about optics and appearing 'green' and not much else.  Pathetic.

Does anything change with a new mayor? Not really.. I don't even know if Andrew Black has any idea what to do for the people here.. he's too busy promoting the 'Agenda' of the United Nations for the mafia he works for ...

On my way to Ottawa to the Sustainable Communities Conference for the next three days. Both Sackville and Dorchester will be recognized with an award for hitting level 5 (the highest level) of the Partners for Climate Protection. Very depressing that the latest endeavour by our Town Management with the Lorne Street Phase II Project (revised tenders to be opened this coming Friday) will actually greatly restrict the flow of water from the downtown area as this latest tender calls for filling in a very large portion of the deep ditches (that they just dug) in order to put in a walking trail (they call it access roads) with small culverts and control structures instead.

Add to this the proposed flap gates as well as grills over the inlets and it will do nothing but help keep the water backing up towards Town during spring freshet. The new water table for this area will certainly be much higher than we were initially told. Is this Project all in the name of creating a massive pond on the railway side of St James Street?

Why will Town Council (and staff) not allow the citizens (as they had promised) to see and comment on the Crandall drawings before a commitment is made and the tender is awarded? Did they forget that it is the taxpayers that are funding it? Isn't Council supposed to be there to give due diligence to spending our tax dollars and doing it in an open and honest way. This, to me, is certainly not the case.

The questions that need to be asked (and answered) are "Who will benefit the most from having a $2 million dollar glorified pond in their front yard?" "Why was the public led astray into foolishly thinking that an extremely expensive and unrealistic route through the Sackville Industrial Park was required?" and "Was it just so that the massive artificial pond could be created as it could then be located on this selected route?"

One minute the 'Green' Town Council refused to alter a by-law because of their concern with passenger vehicle engine emissions so that a simple Robins Donut drive thru could be established at Exit 506 in order to create a bit more employment for our Town. And now --- we are looking at the possibility that they will condone the waste of over 40,000 litres of diesel fuel (dump trucks and excavators) to dig and haul away over 70,000 cubic meters of natural marsh and animal/bird habitat for a fancy pond that is certainly NOT NEEDED. The open ditch that is there now is much more efficient than what they propose in the latest tender call. They only need simple increased capacity under the railway tracks and Crescent Street and the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure will take it from there out to Carters Brook.

So much for doing our part in this 'Green' town to reduce our carbon footprint. I really don't know how our new MLA, Megan Mitton and her Green Party associates, could ever see this ill conceived project in a positive light.
