Across Canada, communities are feeling the strain of a tight housing market. Addressing this challenge requires new ways of thinking. We need to build homes faster, smarter and more efficiently, while preparing the next generation of talent to lead that work. That’s why I’m proud of two important developments at the University of New Brunswick that together demonstrate how industry, government and universities can work together to drive real impact. Yesterday, the Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, announced federal support for 28 projects modernizing how homes are built across Atlantic Canada. Through ACOA - APECA, nearly $13 million is being invested to help builders, suppliers and trades adopt modern construction approaches such as modular and prefabricated building. As part of this announcement, UNB Off-site Construction Research Centre received $1.8 million to support construction‑related small and medium‑sized enterprises as they test new building techniques, adopt off‑site construction methods and improve productivity. Building off the $2.5 million announced with OSCO Construction Group in the fall of 2025, this work directly supports the goals of Build Canada Homes and helps address housing supply challenges where capacity must grow. At the same time, we’re strengthening the future workforce needed to deliver these solutions. Through a generous Siemens Academic Software Grant, UNB students and researchers now have access to world‑leading, industry‑grade design, simulation and industrial AI tools through Siemens’ Global Academic and Future Workforce program. The OCRC will leverage the industry‑grade Siemens software tools to carry out their work. These advanced digital design, simulation and digital twin technologies will enable SMEs to model, test and optimize construction solutions in a virtual environment before they are deployed on site. Reducing risk, increasing efficiency and accelerating innovation. UNB has always been a place where innovation thrives. By aligning applied research, advanced digital tools and strong partnerships with industry and government, we are helping tackle some of the country’s most pressing challenges and preparing graduates to lead the future of engineering, construction, AI and more.   Read more:  ACOA announcement ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eDpdz4tk Siemens' announcement ➡️ https://lnkd.in/e9_nJ4Uy   #UNBResearch #BuildCanadaHomes #PossibleWithU"

Professor Ian Plimer on 'Green Murder'

Professor Ian Plimer is Australia’s best-known geologist. He is Emeritus Professor of Earth Sciences at the University of Melbourne, where he was Professor and Head of Earth Sciences (1991-2005) after serving at the University of Newcastle (1985-1991) as Professor and Head of Geology. He was Professor of Mining Geology at The University of Adelaide (2006-2012) and in 1991 was also German Research Foundation Professor of Ore Deposits at the Ludwig Maximilians Universität, München (Germany). He was on the staff of the University of New England, the University of New South Wales and Macquarie University. He has published more than 120 scientific papers on geology and was one of the trinity of editors for the five-volume Encyclopedia of Geology. Professor Plimer spent much of his life in the rough and tumble of the zinc-lead-silver mining town of Broken Hill where an interdisciplinary scientific knowledge intertwined with a healthy dose of scepticism and pragmatism are necessary. He is Patron of Lifeline Broken Hill and the Broken Hill Geocentre. He worked for North Broken Hill Ltd, was a consultant to many major mining companies and has been a director of numerous exploration public companies listed in London, Toronto and Sydney. In his post-university career he is proudly a director of a number various unlisted private Hancock Prospecting companies. A new Broken Hill mineral, plimerite, was named in recognition of his contribution to Broken Hill geology. Ironically, plimerite is green and soft. It fractures unevenly, is brittle and insoluble in alcohol. A ground-hunting rainforest spider Austrotengella plimeri from the Tweed Range (NSW) has been named in his honour because of his “provocative contributions to issues of climate change”. The author would like to think that Austrotengella plimeri is poisonous. Ian Plimer identifies as ZnFe4(PO4)3(OH)5 and demands the appropriate pronoun be used. Courtesy Connor Court Publishing.

Tweets from Divest minion - MTA 'graduate' ... Emma

I bet the Saudis love the Emma Jacksons of this nation .. this Australian student now 'organizing' in her home in Alberta. I don't use twitter but I can still witness the crazy from this one and like I say MTA is failing in its academic mission to provide a thorough, unbiased, and comprehensive education to its students. I don't care what Maclean's Magazine says as I can see the results.  For more exciting "social justice stuff" for all those "give the land back to the natives" Emma-types at this link:
